Alexander Kagan founded the firm in 2009 in Hamburg. He advises entrepreneurs, founders, managing directors, skilled workers, employers and international clients on legal questions with a commercial or international dimension. He handles mandates personally and remains the direct point of contact from the initial assessment through to its conclusion.

The practice focuses on business immigration and residence law, company formation and corporate law, commercial and contract law, and employment law. The practice regularly brings these fields together — from GmbH formation involving foreign shareholders and residence permits for shareholder-directors to advice for international skilled workers and their employers throughout the relevant process.
Career and Education
Alexander Kagan studied law at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg and the Universität Hamburg. He completed his legal traineeship (Referendariat) in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein, including a placement at the Hamburg Authority for Economic Affairs and Labour (Hamburger Behörde für Wirtschaft und Arbeit), in the department for Energy, Services and Foreign Trade — a posting that shaped his understanding of the intersection of economic activity, residence law and administrative practice at an early stage.
In 2009 he founded the firm in Hamburg. In 2013, he completed the theoretical specialist-lawyer course in commercial and company law (Fachanwaltslehrgang Handels- und Gesellschaftsrecht); in 2016, the corresponding course in international business law (Fachanwaltslehrgang Internationales Wirtschaftsrecht). He does not hold either Fachanwalt title.
He is admitted as a German Rechtsanwalt and is a member of the Hanseatic Bar Association Hamburg.
Multilingual Legal Advice
Many legal matters begin with language. Those who need legal support in Germany but do not speak German as a first language face a dual challenge: legal and linguistic comprehension at once. Legal advice is provided in German and English — for international clients and companies active in Germany or preparing a venture here. By prior arrangement, advice is also available in Russian.

Kagan Legal has been active in Hamburg since 2009. The location at Neuer Wall 75 is in the commercial centre of the city — close to the Chamber of Commerce, banks, businesses and international commercial partners. From Hamburg, Alexander Kagan advises clients with local, Germany-wide and international connections.
